Can you get bleeding ulcers from taking to much asprin, motrin, tylenol, ect? My mom takes a lot of motrin for her migranes. The doctor thinks that she has a bleeding ulcer. I am convinced that she has it from taking to many painkillers. Could I be correct?

kay_flood replied: "yes indeed, the NSAID type medications like aspirin and ibuprofen are proven to cause ulcerations. so it's reasonable to think that if your mom takes a lot of them, yeah, she could have a bleeding ulcer because of it."

Ralph replied: "Yes my dad has this, he got it from taking too much ibuprofen (especially when you haven't eaten before you take it). I'm told it doesn't happen with paracetamol however."

Kaeleigh M replied: "Aspirin especially can cause stomach bleeding, especially if the person already has stomach issues. My boyfriend was shot in the stomach a couple years ago, and subsequently, has some lingering issues. He can't take any aspirin or anything because it will make his stomach bleed. I would say it is deifinitely possible that the painkillers are partially to blame. It could also be stress related, or a combination of things. I hope she gets better soon!"

wagonwould replied: "Yes, these medications can cause bleeding ulcers, but they way your question is worded almost seems like you're thinking it's because she's addicted. These can cause ulcers even without taking them in huge doses, it's partially based on body chemistry. Hope this helps!"

D.Zilla replied: "Yes, with the exception of Tylenol. Tylenol can be taken by people with ulcers. The others absolutely cannot. Aspirin and Advil, Motrin will make her ulcer worse and cause her to bleed more. Aspirin and Advil both thin the blood, when you mix the two your platelet count drops, this is dangerous."

tom s replied: "aspirin's thin the blood,so she will bleed more"

skk2029 replied: "YES! YES! YES! Tell her to stop and call her doctor and tell him."

stomach ulcer/motrin medication questions? My sister is on her period and wants to take Motrin (she's an adult) She has not been diagnosed with stomach ulcers and it's not clear that she even has them. She has been stressed lately and has had stomach pain but no other symptoms of stomach ulcer (no gnawing pain or anything.no acidy stomach) so she assumes the stomach pains were sorta pms like (they were all in her upper stomach area left middle and right) Anyways, she decided to take 1 regular strength motrin pill for the cramps about 5 minutes ago. QUESTION: If she might have stomach ulcers, what will happen? how will she know she is bleeding internally and how severe would it be? she has never had any stomach problems before. she's not going to go to the Doc for just a simple worry and (NO MED.INSURANCE) serious answers only thanks.

knicname replied: "Nothing will happen. There's no reason to think she has stomach ulcers which are usually caused by bacteria."

If ive been taking 1200 mg of motrin for the past 4 days, am i in any real danger? I'm 14 weigh 200 lbs. I've been taking 1200 mg of motrin each day for 4 days now, for my wisdom teeth growing in pain. Am i in danger for stomach ulcers or etc

Alan replied: "i wouldn't recommend especially as it can cause blood pressure issues and your body wont be able to clot as well if you get hurt. And ulcers yes it can cause that to. Motrins effects are out of you system after six hours but over medicating can cause long term effects. Im and EMT and a certified Pharmacist. Im not going to give you medical advice but i'd caution against it."

Rocky Raccoon! replied: "no. motrin works in about 6 hours and after the 6th hour it's gone."

pain relievers for people who have stomach ulcers? so i might have a stomach ulcer not sure yet (dont recommend seeing a doctor, if i was going to i would already be there!) anyways until i am for sure it is or not i dont want to take motrin but my period is coming and i want something for the cramps. does anyone suggest any OTC pain relivers that dont have whatever motrin or tylenol to make stomach bleeds?

Garca T replied: "I dont know much about the pain and stuff but you know what ? u should try Monavie ...not a drug or so ..its a baverage ....crazy may be but i m telling you its real ...check it out on youtube if ur are interested let me know "

Long term drug use causes ulcers? I heard NSAIDs can cause bleeding in the stomach, intestine and ulcers. I take Motrin basically every day. Usually I take at least 2, but recently I've been taking around 6-8 daily. I'm only in my late teems, should I be concerned about ulcers, ect.? If so, how long do you think it will be until an ulcer/bleeding forms? -------------------- and for those who want to know, I get bad growing pains in multiple joints, so that's why I take so many.....and the motrin is not working as well recently, therefore I take more. =(

CreditProvided.com replied: "You should not be taken this amount daily... What is the reason? You are very young. After you take so many your body will get use to the amount you take so it will require you take more... a lot of people who take drugs religiously like you do become immune to them so there is no purpose for them to take them. Since you take so many i advise you to go to the doctor as you have a serious problem if you have to take that many a day."

How do you know if you have a stomach ulcer? Well I doubt its really an ulcer but one time I ODed on motrin IB and ever since then if i ever try and take just 1 or 2 motrin for menstrual cramps or anything my stomach starts hurting worse than the original cramps hurt, and not even the same pain in the same spot, it feels like its in my stomach. whats up? It only hurts after i have taken one or two motrin. No vomitting or anything, just severe discomfort, especially when im moving

versantly replied: "your doctor will diagnose it."

driven_tolove replied: "Stomach ulcer are sometimes occur from H. Pylori. If you haven't been tested for H. Pylori you should go. Try this cite for your symptoms it help me."

ice replied: "if your having lotta pain in your stomach and you feel like you wanna vomitt evrytime you eat...if you feel like your having acid in your stomach which is not going away for days and its keep on increasing day by day..i think if your having all these immediatly go to doctor.."

ahskiki replied: "pain and burning in your stomach, especially after you eat foods that are acidic or spicy. you may pass blood in your stool if it turns into a bleeding ulcer, but thats one of the worst case scenarios. you may also start to vomit blood if it continues to get worse. they can do an abdominal ultrasound or if not that, they can do an EGD where they pass a scope down your esophagus into your stomach and look around. if its there they can cauterize it at that time and put you on medication like protonix or prilosec or pepid to help control acid production and help the ulcer to heal."

Type of Ulcers......He has an ulcer on his throat and I forgot the name!!? I took my son to the emergency room b/c he complained that his throat was hurting. I looked inside his mouth and saw these circles on the back on his throat. The doctor said that it looks like ulcers. I just forgot the name of the type of ulcer. He is not in that much pain, it comes and goes. He still has an appetite and drinks liquids. He plays as well. They spots on his throat look like cold sores. The doctor said that they was really nothing she could do for it, except to give him Motrin if he feels pain. She also said that it was a type of virus and can be contagest if it starts to form on the hands, bottom of feet or rashes on the body. Does anyone know the name or a site the will have different types of ulcers? If I can remember right, I think she said the name started with an "a".

A safe way to get rid of menstrual cramps? I get really bad cramps during that time of the month. Sometimes the pain is so unbearable i just sit there and cry because their is nothing i can do to make it feel better. I take ibuprofen, or advil, etc. right now, and just take a bath. But I have heard that ibuprofen and advil, motrin, etc. will give you stomach ulcers in the long run. I was wondering if their is anything I can take ahead of time to reduce the pain or eliminate it all together? I was thinking possibly a food or something... btw, im only 14. Thanks!

casandra x replied: "Aleeve."

Dorothy H replied: "Sure, when you get on vitamin E,it helps so much in alleviating the cramps. give it a while to get into your system. 800 to 1000 mg a day. *(it'll also give your more healthy nails & skin). the ibuprofen & nsaid type drugs, will eat out your stomach over a perioid of time, but taking it now & then it wont, but take it w/food or milk. it's very acidic, that's how it hurts ya."

withafunnyheart replied: "Midol is totally awesome or a heating pad. If you want to eliminate it you need tighter core muscles and to exercise, because when you get you period you use those muscles and that's why you get cramps if they're weak."

Jody replied: "Honestly I don't think you'll have serious damage if you use a few pain killers once a month. However, Nature's Sunshine has a really great herb for that time of the month. You take it a few days before and during your period and it should take the edge off. "

Which painkillers are you not supposed to take when drunk or when hungover the next morning? I have been drinking about 5 times a week and taking a lot of Motrin because my head hurts. My doctor said my stomach was full of ulcers and he told me something bad about what N said. But I don't know who N is or what it said. Does anyone know about this? Thanks! Ok but which painkiller is the best to take because I heard some were worse than others??

Amanda S replied: "Never take painkillers after any drinking. They can overly thin your blood."

ccurtis92 replied: "well when u have a hangover, u should never take painkillers. the alcohol is still in your system, so it will mix with the pills and create stomach ulcers, which apparrently you already have. u have to get these surgically removed! google them"

Matomi replied: "Start with put down the beer. You shouldn't take any pain killer when loaded. Your liver is racing trying to detox the alcohol from your blood and then you are going to try and make it process a drug as well. Really dumb. The day after, start with drinking only water, lots of it. Your hangover is because you interupted a cycle that requires water. I would then take 2-3 buffered aspirin (not motrin) and keep drinking water for the entire day. You can't live without a liver and if you keep kicking the crap out of it, it will breakdown before you are ready for the dirt nap."

hertzbread replied: "unfortunately, it is very bad for you to take painkillers when you're drunk or hung over, especially if your stomach is already messed up. instead of painkillers (i love them, so i know what you mean), try eating food and drinking liquids to re-hydrate yourself."

Jason B replied: "no pain killer is good to take when, some people take an asprin the night before they drink cause it help the liver and to prevent hangovers.. but the pain killer would do more than just kill the pain,it could kill you if taken when while drinking. that's why it's listed not to drink on the pill bottle."
